The day started well. No tail wind but the weather was pretty good and while the hills were slower than yesterday, they still seemed quite doable. Several times, Dan and I commented on how considerate the Cornish road users were, waiting for an opportunity to overtake safely and giving us a wide berth when they did so.
Within 30 seconds of entering Devon, the rain and honking started together. We were hooted no less than 29 times in a 5-mile stretch of the A30. We were cycling safely, wearing brightly coloured clothing and had clearly-visible lights on; seemingly, our only crime was having the audacity to cycle on a main road. How dare we?

Sheltering from the rain under a bridge on the A30
After what seemed like a never-ending section of the A30, culminating in this 5km hill, we arrived at today’s campsite near Okehampton at around 15:15.
We’ve had a series of problems getting our online tracking to work – half a day’s recording at best – so we’ve given up on it for now.
Tomorrow, we’ll be heading up to Bridgwater, between Taunton and Bristol. Although it’s about 10 miles further than we did today, there will be 400m less climbing to do.
