The route

We’ve known the route for some months but now, we’re finally able to publish it.

We’d looked into a variety of ways of getting the information onto a map but most of them were simply too time-consuming. Fortunately, Google Maps have come up with a feature to “draw a line along roads”. You just click on where you want to go from it plots the quickest route, constantly changing as you move the mouse around. It’s rather like an instant, visual route-finder. As is often the case with new ideas, they haven’t got it quite right yet – you have to select Page 2 of the list of waypoints to see the northerly half of the route printed, and sometimes it just misses out a small section for no apparent reason – but the concept’s good.

Anyway, here’s what you’ve been waiting for: the map.

If you click on a section of the blue route, it will tell you the date we’ll be there. Some days have “part 1″ and “part 2″s; that’s either because we wanted to cycle somewhere off-road (like along a cycle path) or just because I made a mistake and didn’t want to start the whole day again.

We’re hoping to be able to update our progress as we go, either at the end of each day or – even better – live, as we go. We’re looking into services like runkeeper.com and followus.co.uk to see which will serve us best.

If you think you might be able to meet us en route, please leave a comment on here to let us know where (or get in touch by some other means) and we’ll do our best to keep you updated on our progress.
